Prerana 2011 held for 10th class students at Tagoor Auditorium, Suryapeta on December 9, 2011. This was a one day programme organized from 2:00 to 5:30 pm.

Total Four hundred 10th Class students from Forty Zilla Parishad High SChools and Government High Schools from Nalgonda District participated .

Sun was still asleep, birds still nestling intheir nests, breeze of silent cool wind, clad in white uniforms, one by onestudent started gathering in the school premises. They had aback bag filledwith eatables, snacks and water bottles and in the front pack, a note book andwriting materials Anxious parents, worried parents and sportive parents alongwith their wards covered in warm clothing meeting, greeting and exchanging withco-parents were present in school premises by 5:30 am.

42 students from class VI to X, along with Mrs Charu Mathur, SocialScience Department Head, Mrs Kathyaini Teacher, and Sri Siva Rama KrishnaSanskrit teacher along with two drivers and two attenders and accompanied bytwo VMF team members started at 6:00 am from DPS School Nacharam, Hyderabad.Aavurpally is at a distance of 75km from Hyderabadvia outer ring road, a journey of two hours, with a short break at AyyasagaraKshetram for breakfast. Ayyasagara Kshetram is quite famous pilgrimage centrefor ancient temple Veerabhadrappa temple.This area is protected under forest zone, has a nursery. The undisrupted scenicbeauty is an added attraction.

After refreshing and mingling withnature, the troop proceeded to Aavurupalli which is 15Km from Ayyasagarakshetram. At the entrance one can find the ruined guard post known as ‘Buruju’in Telugu structure still standing erect. ZPHS Aavurupalli students marched inrow and greeted DPS students with flowers. Then another group of students welcomedthese students in traditional Kolatam dance trained by Sri Shettipalli Mallaiahgaru-VMF Culture wing's senior most member. Then following the dancers, DPSstudents also paired in twos formed two rows and followed the ZPHS High Schoolcampus. Amidst stands the huge banyan tree with roots down. Enjoying the warmsun under the shade of banyan DPS children surrounded the circle formed by ZPHSKolatam troupe. Some taking pictures, shooting videos and clapping their handsushered to the jubilant moment that crossed all boundaries. For a moment allwere perplexed and involved to the rhythmic beats, harmonium tune and theracking sounds of Kolatam.

Then, both school students gathered for prayerand collectively recited their school prayers. As an exchange, DPS studentsalso sang beautiful song from 3Idiots movie, accompanied by guitar played byone of the students.

Then, two DPS students and Four ZPHS studentswere formed into group and set out on exploration visit, to know about villagelife, agriculture, livelihood, and culture. As part of the curriculum, DPSstudents were given a questionnaire to collect information.

They return after 2hours, carrying bunch ofcotton, sunflower and hibiscus flowers. Few had bottle gourd, brinjals, rawtamarind, and tomatoes. The pinkish cheeks, twilight in the eyes, tired legsdid speak of the unimaginable adventure and trekking they had going throughcotton fields, paddy fields, harvested-barren fields. Yet the city lads weregathering information from rural counterparts and noting it down.

Theyalso could notice, believe and understand the social problems especially''Child Marriage" prevalent in region of Mahaboobnagar Village.One of the girl child of Class VIII was married off, who attends the school.(The school teachers protested and did talk to the village elders regardingChild marriage being an offence. The village society and culture being so rigidthat the marriage was solemnized quietly by villagers without any notice.Parents are now sending the girl to school as school authority has forced themto do so).

Child labour is also quite common- as most ofthese students go and work in the form during harvesting season to shoulder theresponsibility with the mother who works as labourer. These rural kids arequite well exposed to both theoretical and practical aspects of knowledge.

After relishing sumptuous bit spicy lunchcomprising of Rice, Dal cooked with Leafy Vegetable, Mixed Vegetable Curry,Rasam, Curd, Butter Milk and of course Sweet-Sonpapadi, students gathered forat the ground for sharing their experiences. ZPHS Aavurpalli students performedtwo group dances trained by Ms Sarita-VMF Cultural team member. Both schoolstudents came forward to share their experiences. It was nice to see the DPSstudents made good effort to speak in Telugu so that the ZPHS students couldunderstand easily. They said they got to learn so much about village life,struggle and way of living. They sounded positive and also were assuringsupport that they would extend to their newly made friends for continuingeducation. They also counted it as one of the memorable days in their life andwould look forward to come again. ZPHS students too got to learn few Englishsyllables, eagerness to learn, approachable attitude from DPS students.

Teachers from both the schools too exchangedtheir experiences and shared their feelings.

DPS students had carried few things like,books, note books, pencil sets, pens, colour pencils, crayons and distributedto the students as part of Joy of Giving apart from one carom board, fewbundles of cloths and uniforms.

DPS Nacharam has adopted ZPHS Aavurupalli andVillage as part of Social responsibility and shall visit the school againshortly with another set of students. It is indeed our pleasure that, this yearfor Varadhi programme Delhi Public School, Nacharam, Hyderabad got associated with VandemataramFoundation (VMF). We only wish that this bridge turns into a brotherhood helpin merging the rural- urban gap and progressing together.

Motivation Programme for Govt school Children Mahaboobnagar Dist

Energetic motivator, speaker, orator and personality development trainer Sri Laxman from BASE conducted one day programme for four government schools at Amangal, Mahaboobnagar district on Nov9, 2011 for classes VIII, IX and X of ZPHS Boys, ZPHS Girls, Govt. High School and Kasturiba Girls High School.

Around 800 students from the four schools participated and were benefitted by this programme.

The sessions were on "Goal Setting, Examination Preparation, Time management and How to be successful in Life".

Polaris - Ullas Trust Schlorship Programme in Association with Vandemataram Foundation

Polaris Asia Pvt. Ltd. under corporate social responsibility has formed a trust called Ullas Trust. Through this trust they try to reach out underprivileged and poor people.

Polaris has been associated with Vandemataram Foundation and is extending its service to the government school students in various forms.

This year they conducted scholarship test in 7 mandals of Mahaboobnagr district-50 government schools-around 500 students from class VIII, IX and X participated. The test was on based on the state board curriculum on general mathematics, general science, social studies, language and general knowledge. 27 students cleared the test successfully and are given yearly scholarship of Rs 1800/- for five years. This venue for conducting test was organized at Kalyani gardens Amangal on 2011.

Cultural Programmes At PRERANA 2011

VMF focuses on all rounddevelopment of the students. In order to give better exposures, VMF cultural teamtrains the students in group dance and songs. VMF also provides platform forexhibition of their talents.

In the programmes organized bythe VMF, as part of cultural activity one or two group dances performed. Thisis to encourage these students and also to be regular to the schools.

For Prerana 2011 for inaugural andclosing ceremony dances were performed by government school students. Welcomedance was performed by ZPHS Rangapur and Kalwakurthy. During closing ceremonyJai Ho song by ZPHS Peddapur and Dappu dance by ZPHS Mudvin were performed.

The Vandemataram Foundation (VMF) has been working for strengthening of Government schools with community participation. The foundation has been actively working in Mahaboobnagar, Warangal and Nalgonda districts in more than 200 schools for the past five and half years. VMF has been organizing an annual Examination preparatory camp for the 10th class students of Government schools since 2006.

This years from 400 government schools from Mahaboobnagr; a total of 800 students participated and attended together at Sudarshan Function hall, Mahaboobnagar for three days (14th, 15th and 16th Nov, 2011) "Padava Taragathi Vidyardhula Prerana Sadassu Motivation camp" for 10th class exam appearing students of Government schools. Around hundred government High school teachers, also participated.

This camp organized 100 days before the forth coming board examination in association with District Education Department Mahaboobnagar under the chairmanship of Dr. Vijaya Kumar garu - District Education Officer, Mahaboobnagar.

The logistic like food and accommodation were organized by the Education department, Resource persons, training camp schedule and other miscellaneous were organized by the Foundation. Each student were given a study kit comprising of note books, study materials prepared by Sri V.V.S Prasad, Educationist, Swamy Vivekananda literature, Vemana Padhyalu and writing materials

The 3 day camp strengthens students appearing for 10^th class board examination but I in turn benefit more than one lakh students, as these students would share and teach their respective classmates in their respective schools. The students go back motivated with a resolve to do better and to help other students. The idea is to bring focus back to the Government schools, where the poorest of the poor studies and help them to do better in the forth coming examination.

For the Inaugural Ceremony on November 14, 2011 Sri Purushotam Reddy IAS, Collector of Mahaboobnagr district and Smt. Geeta Rani - DSP were the chief guest. Dr. Vijaya Kumar DEO, Smt. Leela Laxma Reddy – President of Council for Green Revolution, Sri Dilip Reddy, Former RTI Commissioner, Gorenti Yenkkanna - well noted folk writer and singer, Sri Ravindra Rao - Founder of VMF, Sri Madhava Reddy - Secretary of VMF, Sri Narasi Raddy-President of VMF Mahaboobnagar participated.

Review and Training Programme of Sri Sarada Bala Samsakara Programme

Two days Review and Training Programme of Sri Sarada Bala Samsakara Kendra workshop Vidya Volunteers was organised by at Amangal Mandal, Mahaboobnagar on 31st October and 1st November 2011. 100 Kishories Volunteers attended workshop.

The intension of the workshop was to conduct appraisal of existing volunteers and induction to new comers. These volunteers are from Villages and Mandals of Mahabubnagar Dist. Again, these volunteers are from poor and vulnerable families. With the support extended from VMF they are now attending college courses and also act as good will ambassadors of VMF. It is these Kishories who facilitate the VMF activities in village level.

The fact is that some of these Kishori Volunteers were rescued from child marriages and enrolled in colleges from higher studies with by VMF. By attending this workshop, the volunteers got to learn and teach fellow volunteers on the teaching skills, challenges and tacking issues, sharing happiest moments and other ambiguity related to study centers, were discussed.

Coverage of Sri Sarada Balasamskara Kendras in Naari Bheri programme-ETV2

Sri Sarada Balasamsakar Kendra is a programme initiated by Vandemataram Foundation in collaboration with Sri Rama Krishna Math and Value Labs, Hyderabad since last December. Around 450 Bala samasakara Kendra are now actively run with the support of Kishorie Vidya Volunteers (KVV) in Warangal, Mahaboobnagar, RangaReddy and Nalgonda Districts.

These KVV’s after their college hours in the evening conduct study centers for government school students studying from class 1 to X. KVV’s apart from helping these students in their academic works, they also conduct story session, teaching slokhas, Vemana padhyalu, Narayana Suktam, Patriotic songs, interesting games on memeory, vocabulary building and so on.

Recently, ETV2 liked to cover this programme on the eve of Children’s Day celebration. In order to capture the glimpses of this newly initiated programme, at Pragnyadhamam (a hostel run by the VMF for orphans and semi orphans) located at B.N.Reddy nagar, Hyderabad. The KVV from Warangal, RangaReddy and Mahaboonagar districts along with little angels of Bala samaskara Kendra participated in an interaction session organised by the Foundation.

ETV2 did interact with KVV, little angels of Bala samaskara and VMF team members. The whole coverage was telecasted on Sunday 12:30 to 1:00 pm in Naari-Bheri programme. The URL link of the same is given below.

How serious is the state government about implementing the Right to Education Act? Are social sector programmes producing the desired result? The Annual Status of Education Report by the NGO Pratham indicates that government schools in Andhra Pradesh are underperforming in many ways.

The survey conducted in every district of Andhra Pradesh indicates that 43 per cent of schools with enrolment of 61 to 90 students have less than three teachers. The RTE requires a school with 61 to 90 students to have at least three teachers.

Under RTE, there should be one classroom for every teacher, but in AP, 73.2 per cent of the schools with more than or equal to seven teachers are below norms.

Asked about this obvious lack of infrastructure government officials say they are hoping that the additional funding will take care of the situation.

“Infrastructure should not be a problem. The government has allocated additional `4,400 crore under the sarva siksha abhiyan scheme, so the improvement should fall in place in the next two years,” said an official in the department of school education.

Given the alacrity with which funds disappear into anything but the projects for which they are meant, this does not inspire much confidence.

President of Andhra Pradesh Balala Hakkula Sangham, Mr Achyuta Rao, said that 53 per cent of schools with less than 60 students have only one teacher.

If the teacher goes on leave, the school will not function. Such issues need to be addressed first by the government.

A study of 900 schools in 15 districts released by Aser Centre last week followed 30,000 Class 2 and Class 4 students over 15 months. The results show that children learned modest amounts during this time, but most remained at least two grade levels behind where they should be, including in the best performing states.-Hindustan Times

Vandemataram Foundation is working towards girl students empowerment since 2005 by imparting quality education and extending financial support to girl students to continue higher studies after SSC (10th class) in Warangal, Mahaboobnagar and Ranga Reddy Districts of Andhra Pradesh. This is done under a programme called Kishori Vidya Vikasam. More than 500 kishories are getting benefited by this programme and are now pursuing Graduation, Medical and Engineering courses. In turn, these kishoris are acting as Vidya Volunteers and are conducting tuition centers in respective villages a programme called Sri Saradha Bala Samskarana Kendra. This is an extension of Kishori Vidya Vikasam Programme. Bala Samaskara Kendras are set up in more than 200 villages is helping more than 80,000 students from primary class to High school in getting quality and moral education.

This programme is shouldered and monitored by thirty co-coordinators and Five full time Trust members. As the Foundation is not fully equipped with latest gadgets of recording and filmimg the activities, it depends upon other channels. One such being Media. THE FOUNDATION has Planted on an average of 1000 plants per village in 26 villages of Mahabubnagar District, with the help of Council for Green Revolution, Hyderabad. The focus was the Govt school and the gaurdian the students; with the slogan of Green planet for our future the foundation in association with Council For Green Revolution has planted 26,000 saplings from fruit bearing once to the shade giving once. The idea was to plant shade giving ones in front of the house and fruit bearing ones in the backyard.

‘Second freedom struggle’ for first rate schools

Migrating from the rural areas to cities to make it big in life is common. What is rare is to go back to the villages to share the fruits of one’s achievement in the city. About 30 persons from different walks of life from the city are supporting a foundation that is now changing the face of government schools in rural areas. They have produced 138 students who have made it to the IIITs and 150 others who have got free seats in corporate schools. Venu K Kodimela takes a close look at this reverse migration.

“Today, the situation in rural areas is pathetic as people look for alms. The government hands out doles like rice at Rs 2-a-kilo and other subsidies. No doubt it is necessary in a few cases.

There is no self respect or self reliance left in rural areas,” says city-based social activist Madhav Reddy Yadma.

“Moral values have hit the rock bottom and it can be attributed to lack of quality education. There is no emphasis on moral education and patriotism. To inculcate values, one has to reach out to the young ones in rural areas.

To revive moral values and to inculcate patriotism among students, we have come up with the concept of “Our School, Our Village, Our Country.”

To achieve these and related goals, the Vandemataram Foundation was started during the celebrations of the centenary of the Vandemataram Movement in 2005. Inspired by former President Abdul Kalam, it is now involved in the betterment of children with focus on their well-rounded education.

Launching “a new freedom struggle”, this time against poverty and illiteracy, it is changing the lives of children and is already active in 200 schools located in the interior areas of Warangal and Mahabubnagar districts.

The members and volunteers of the foundation have managed to enroll 90,000 students since 2005, and, thanks to what is offered in schools administered by them, the drop-out rate is a mere 5-6 %.

Today, the strength in classrooms of schools handled by the foundation has increased, monitoring of schools by parents is regular, and the attendance of teachers has improved. All of this has resulted in the overall improvement of school performance in the SSC examination.

“The central government and the state government spend huge amounts of money on education. It is estimated that Rs 20,000 is spent on each student a year.

Today, even a school in a small village has infrastructure and is well-staffed. Some of the schools have as many as 30 teachers, but they fail to produce good results in the SCC examination,” a representative of the foundation.

In some cases, schools have computers worth Rs 10 lakh, but they don’t have provision for security. If everything is in order, then the schools might face power cuts during school hours and struggle to buy fuel for generators.

“For the sake of 10 litres of kerosene, the computer lab may closed for students. If the youths of the village contribute and buy kerosene, then the students could use the lab. It all boils down to responsibility.

None is ready to take responsibility as the parents don’t question the management. Parents of most of the students these days are either illiterates or don’t demand answers from the school administration.”

A school shapes the future of every child. It is a place where every one learns the basics of life and graduates into the world. Making a village school the nodal point, the foundation builds a team consisting of village elders, youths and alumni of the school.

These teams, working in tandem with the parents and the teachers of the school, actively involve the students in various constructive and creative activities. Akshrabhyasam is the traditional Hindu way of way of initiating children into education. Children in the school going age are indentified in select villages and initiated into education in the presence of village elders.

About 90,000 children have been so admitted to schools since 2005 and the drop-out rate is low, at 5 to 6 percent. Slates from the temple town of Basara are brought to the villages and assurance is taken from their parents and villagers that they would support the education drive.

Kishori Vidyavikasam
Many girl students discontinue studies after SSC mainly due to financial constraints of parents and they are forced into marriage at an early age.

This will tell upon their health and their future children. To help overcome these difficulties, under the foundation’s Kishori Vidyavikasam programme, financial support is given to indigent girls to pursue their education. Over 2,500 girls have benefitted from the programme.

Another important aspect of the programme is that after their college hours, these girls run study centres at home for students of government schools. This helps the girls to develop leadership qualities and improve their own performance in studies.

Festive gatherings

On Rakshabandan day, school children tie rakhis to their elders and get an assurance from them that they would not employ children in farms and other activities. School children tied over five lakh rakhis in 2007, 7.5 lakh in 2008 and 9 lakh rakhis in 2009 as part of this programme.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated in 60 village schools in Warangal district. Each student brings a lamp from his home to inculcate concern for government schools among the people in general.
Study centres are also run on the school premises one hour ahead of school and two hours after the school by volunteers.

Weak students in higher classes are identified and sent to these study centres for extending help. Camps are conducted to encourage meritorious students who may not have a congenial atmosphere at home.

They are supported by residential study camps with all facilities for focused study. Some of such students have come out in flying colours. As many as 138 students have been selected for IITs and over 150 got free seats in corporate schools.

Study trips are organised for students in the city so as to help them understand life in villages. Children from DAV Safilguda visited Banagipeta village in Warangal district in November 2010.

Under the Varadhi programme, the DAV school adopted the Zilla Parishad Secondary School of Banajipeta. This programme is intended to strengthen bonds between students in the city and their counterparts in rural areas.

Vandemataram Foundation Salutes Superstar Rajnikanth and his friends for taking up renovation of their School in which they studied a Govt school in Bengaluru. Hatsoff .. Hope many more would be inspired in doing the same and Govt schools would be back to their glory.

Superstar Rajinikanth and his friends have come forward to renovate and upgrade the school in which they had studied in Bengaluru. However, the contribution of the top star to this initiative has been kept as a guarded secret.

On Thursday, Raja Bathar, Ashok and other friends of Rajini came to the Government Model Primary School in Gavi Puram, near Gavi Gangadhareshwara Swamy Temple, and announced their plan to renovate the school.

It was in this school the Superstar studied from class one to eight. Raj Bhathar, while saying that they would provide computers, tables and other amenities to the school, refused to say anything about Rajini's personal contribution.

"We don't want to publicise his charity work," he said. Kannada actor Ashok, who is also the president of the Karnataka Film Workers association, hailed this initiative of Rajini's friends and said the school would soon get a facelift. A large number of ex-students of the school took part in the event.

Experiences of Youth for seva Volunteers visiting Vandemataram Foundation

It is a heart touching experience visiting the schools and sewa projects. We reached Govt. School in a village in Thorrur near Warangal Town at 10:30 AM with the help of Ravinder ji the founder of “VANDEMATARAM” organization. The main motto of this organization is to inculcate young minds with a love of learning along with the minimum social responsibilities that every individual should exhibit. They started the foundation by adopting 40 government schools in and around Warangal which is now spread over 125 schools in Warangal and 80 schools in Mehabubnagar. They conduct tuitions to the government school students before and after school working hours, volunteers go to schools, teach them on various subjects, and clarify their doubts. They also take sessions on moral education once in 3 months to mould the character of students to good citizens which is one of the loop holes of current education system lacking of human development and nation building in the education process. Ravinder ji delivered a speech about the warriors who sacrificed their lives for the Independent India, followed by the School Kit distribution organized by YFS.

Ravinder Ji shared his thoughts on the current society which is lacking the culture, traditions, ethics and also brotherly hood love. We had a discussion on the measures to overcome this. He says that as a citizen “VANDEMATARAM” foundation is his effort to bring the change in the society. We had a quick lunch and started to Warangal.

Varadhi 2011: Vandemataram Foundation Mahaboobnagar to Meridian

Around Two hundred ten students along with twenty VMF volunteers from Eleven School participated in Mahaboobnagar to Meridian-Varadhi 2011 aRural-Urban Cultural Exchange Programme at Meridian High School, Banjara Hills from August 12 to 15, 2011.

These students are from Zilla Parishad High Schools from six Mandals of Mahaboobnagar District. These Students arrived on August12, 2011 at12pm and the inaugural programme commenced at 2pm. Smt. Usha Reddy,Principal Meridian School extended a warm welcome to these students,volunteers, and VMF staff.

The very purpose of this exchange programme was to equip these ruralwith essential study skills, special English course, Mathematical andanalytical skills and Mind Mapping.

According students of VIII and IX were divided into groups (two groupsper class).

The three day stay routine is as follows:

Day commenced with Yoga at 5a.m followed by games. After fresheningup and breakfast, classes commenced from 9 am till 5pm with lunch andtea breaks in between.

Meridian Staff and teachers have undergone training in teaching inTelugu and make it easy to understand for government school students.

As part of sightseeing, om August 13, 2011 these students visitedRamaKrishna Math and met Swamiji Bhodamayanandha Maharaj who motivatedstudents with his commendable speech. Then proceeded toHi-tech cityand krishnakanth park at yusafguda.

On August 14, 2011 they visited Birla science museum and Birlaplanetarium.

On August 15, 2011 on the occasssion of Independence Day specialCultural programme was exhibited by both Meridian School students andGovernmnet school students of Mahaboobnagar. Few students also gave
wonderful speeches on freedom struggle and freedon fighters in presentday context.

Apart from this, in the evenings cultural programme was organized togive ample platform to the government school students to exhibit theirtalents. Many students took this opportunity and sang wonderful songs
with moral behind, shared their experiences and also entertained allwith funny bones.

August 15, 2011, at 2 pm the government school students bid adieu toMeridian School students, teachers and Staff.

The Vandematarm foundation is indeed greatly indebted to Meridianstaff and teachers for taking all the pains in teaching these Telugumedium students in Telugu.

HYDERABAD: Council for Green Revolution in association with the Andhra Pradesh forest department, Vandemataram Foundation and Srisailam Temple, will launch a campaign - Green Alliance for Conservation of Eastern Ghats (GRACE) on Sunday in Srisailam.
Speaking to newsmen here on Friday, K Leela Laxma Reddy, president, Council for Green Revolution said Justice B Subhashan Reddy, former chairman of the AP State Human Rights Commission would launch the programme.
She said GRACE would work to unleash a national-level people’s movement for conserving Eastern Ghats.

Awareness on importance of Education has also brought in change amongst modern youth. We find most youngsters being aspirants of achieving in competitive exams like Civil Service, Group-I and Group -II.

As you all are well aware that Vandemataram Foundation has started Pragnadhamam Hostel for Orphans and Children of single parents of Mahaboobnagar District. We came across many youth and aspirant unable to qualify or take up Civil coaching basically due to lack of family supporters. Again, boarding, lodging and favorable study atmosphere is another drop back for these helpless rural youth.

These youth are Graduates and Post Graduates and are willing to under go rigorous Civil Service, Group-I and Group –II coaching. Till Post Graduation they are able to avail the free government hostels. They find difficulty in finding a suitable place after post graduation. They just need a helping hand and motivational push that would make their life. Right motivation and molding of these aspirants would not only make them successful but a good human product who would later work for betterment of society.

In order to extend the right support this year, VMF has selected 30 such aspirant youth after through application scrutiny and interview. These youth are now enrolled with Pragnadhamam where there will be provided with free boarding and lodging apart from conducive study atmosphere. VMF is also arranging for coaching in various subjects apart from General Studies.

NGO helps poor students excel in SSC

May 21: A total of 226 SC, ST, BC and minority students from rural background managed to secure more than 500 marks in SSC exam after receiving a NGO-run free 45-day pre-exam intensive residential coaching in Thorur mandal. Their good marks would help them join corporate colleges free of cost. Of these, 60 Vandemataram Foundation students, who are sought after by corporate engineering and medical coaching centres to enhance their SC/ST rankings, managed to cross the 550 figure. Last year, one of the Foundation's students got state sixth rank in engineering entrance exam.

During February-March, a select group of 240 students from 400 government high schools in Warangal was coached by Vandematram Foundation, which not only provided them expert teachers’ help from government sector schools but also looked after their food and accommodation without charging a single rupee. The Foundation, it may be noted, only provides coaching facility to government school students from rural backgrounds.

Most of these students hail from economically poor families and have no resources at their disposal even for taking private tuitions, said Mr Vandematram Ravinder, founder of Vandematram Foundation, which runs 12 such intensive coaching camps for government SSC students in Warangal, Mahbubnagar and Adilabad. Adding further, he said that on June 6, the Vandemataram Foundation would felicitate all the district toppers from government schools at a function in Hyderabad. While the district topper from private sector schools in Warangal bagged 587 marks (Ms A Aparna), from the government sector schools, Vandemataram Foundation students got the highest marks by securing 564 marks.

This year, three students from Vandemataram Foundation, namely N. Veeranna (ZPSS Jayyaram, Maripeda), B. Mounika (ZPSS Taralapalli, Hanamkonda) and Ms M. Anita (ZPSS Nallavelli mandal) secured 564 marks. In the overall state rank, Warangal's rank slipped from its 10th rank in 2010 to 11th rank in 2011. However, there has been an increase in pass percentage. Against last year's pass percentage of 82.90, this year's pass percentage in SSC exam stood at 84.38. When asked about zero percentage schools, the DEO, Mr B.J. Pusparaj, said, “We are yet to get a clear picture of the SSC performance by private and government schools in the district.”

Like last year, this year also Vandemataram Foundation organized Polytechnic Training Programme for 10^th class students at Kalwakurthy.

Most of these students belong to poor and downtrodden families who are not in a position to impart higher education like B.Tech, Medicine, and other professional courses as, they are long term courses and also cost of education is much higher. Diploma and technical courses are also much in demand and fetching good salary. There are Government Polytechnic colleges which are offering free seats with hostel facilities. Again, diploma courses are of three year duration and after completion they are absorbed as technicians in government and private sectors.

In order to equip these students with analytical and aptitude skills VMF organized training programme for 20 girls and 30 boys. Through this training programme these students were trained towards qualifying the forthcoming entrance exam.

This is an attempt to see these students don’t stop education after 10^th class, but continue and support.

VMF is indeed to Sri Srininvas Teacher Urukondapeta, Sri Narasi Reddy Teacher, Sri Suresh Lecturer Govt. Degree College who came forward to impart training to these students.

Sri Sarada Bala Samskara Kendra One day Orientation Training Camp at Ayyasagaram Kshetram On April 22, 2011

Sri Sarada Bala Samskara Kendra is the extension of Kishori Vidya Vikasam. This project was launched in December 2010 and supports 350 Kishoris in their holistic development. The objective of this project is to empower society spiritually, disseminate knowledge on value-based lifestyle to expecting mothers, rural families and women through Kishoris. Further the project also aims at imparting quality training on health, nutrition, prenatal care.

Through this project VMF intends to discourage practice of child marriage, provide career guidance, life –skill training and build in leadership qualities in them.

Thus, equipped with necessary training these Kishoris would act as Ambassadors in disseminating the knowledge to other Kishoris in rural areas.

The programme has already commenced at Warangal District. The same project has been launched even in Mahaboobnagar District.
After scrutiny, around 75 kishories from seven Mandals attended the one day orientation training camp at Ayyasagaram Kshetram on April 22, 2011.

VMF Founder Sri Ravindra Rao addressed the gathering and briefed about the project. Chairman of Council for Green Revolution Smt. Leela Laxma Reddy gaaru in her speech stressed upon the 'Role of Kishories in Development'.

Vandemataram Foundation recently organized in by the Foundation in association with FlyTeach Aviation, Hyderabad under the guidance of Captain Mamata.

This programme was organized for the 10^th class students who have just written their board examinations and waiting for result. Around 75 students from different mandals of Mahaboobnagar district participated in this special camp.

These students were exposed to various career and emerging career opportunities.

Special lectures were organized on career guidance.

These students were exposed to use of computers-Basic computer training, Internet concepts, browsing, search engines and best use of net services were highlighted.

Apart from classroom training, as part of sight seeing these students visited Birla Mandir, Tankbund, Hussain Sagar Budda Statue. They also visited I Labs and Aneva Engineering to interact with professionals.

This training camp has definitely motivated the students and has built in strong determination to achieve great goals with success.

Celebrations at government school were restricted mostly to National festivals. Where as Annual Day Celebrations are quite popular among Private School. Private schools take great efforts in teaching dance, songs, dramas and ballets.

Sri Narsi Reddy garu Mahboobnagar District presided over the closing ceremony. Chief Guest was Sri Kuchupula Damodar Reddy Zilla Parishad Chairman Mahaboobnagar. Guests of Honour -Sri VijayKumar DEO, Mahaboobnagar, Smt. Usha Rani, Dy.DEO, Mahaboobnagar, and Yoga Guruji Acharya Rameshjigaaru. School Head masters, teachers and Parents also participated.

Sri Vijayachander Reddy, District President, Warangal presided over the ceremony. Chief Guest for the ceremony was Sri Shithikantananda Maharaj from RamakrishnaMath, Hyderabad.

Guests of honour were Smt. Leela Laskhma Reddy, president, Council for green revolution, Sri Lakshma Reddygaaru, Smt. Swethambari Gaaru. Sri Sruthi amma.

Vandemataram Foundation is not only motivating students but also is getting motivated by Students, Teachers, Educational Department, Supporter and Donors. With this motivation VMF at Nitin Foundation, Torrur Mandal, Warangal District organized Examination Preparation camp for 10th class students.

This year the foundation extended the camp even to Nalgonda District wherein VMF volunteers have started VMF activities limiting to few mandals.

Around 357 students have enrolled from 40 mandals of Warangal and 2 mandals of Nalgonda Districts. In total around 150 schools have identified students to be part of this camp. 149 girls and 218 boys are participating in this camp.

The camp was inaugurated on 9th February, 2011 and will continue till 20th March 2011

The inaugural function commenced with patriotic song bowing to the mother earth and mother India to make all her children, self sufficient and self reliant.

Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function were DEO Sri Pushparaj garu, Sri Buchaiah garu MEO Narsimhulapeta, Sri Ramreddy MEO Nellikuduru, Sri Veerabrachary MEO Thorrur, School Headmasters, Teachers, Parents and local leaders and Youth.

DEO Sri Pushparaj garu in his chief guest address extended his full support for this camp by means.

The foundation is indebted to the Nitin Foundation founder Dr. Ashok Reddy garu, who has provided the building infrastructure for VMF activities. Without his kind support, the Foundation would not have been able to progress, achieve and grow.

Similarly, VMF is indebted to all the donors and supporters for their support and building awareness about the Foundation and its activities.

Education boost: Govt fails to make elementary sense

If one analyzes the fine print of the education budget, the finance minister's talk of " demographic dividend" is just big talk.

Increase in allocation to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)—the vehicle for implementing the Right to Education (RTE) Act—from Rs 15,000 crore to Rs 21,000 crore does not reveal the correct picture. Revised estimate for the SSA in 2010-11 had increased to Rs 19,000 crore after the RTE came into force. So, effectively, the increase is Rs 2,000 crore. Madhav Chavan of NGO Pratham said, "The overall increase in elementary education to Rs 29,000 crore from last year's Rs 26,000 crore is good enough only for inflation adjustment."

The bigger problem with elementary education allocation is the way the government has abdicated its responsibility. Nearly Rs 18,000 crore to elementary education comes not from gross budgetary support, but through Prathmik Shiksha Kosh—the non-lapsable fund where 2% education cess is collected.

Following protests from the HRD ministry, the mid-day meal scheme has got Rs 10,380 crore compared to last year's Rs 9,440 crore.

In higher education, institutions—mostly in poll-bound states—have got a one-time grant. These range from Rs 200 crore to IIT-Kharagpur to Rs 50 crore each to AMU centres in Bengal and Kerala and Rs 100 crore to Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. For Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, TN, and Madras School of Economics, it is Rs 20 crore.

Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University expects to start work on a Hindi dictionary with a grant of Rs 10 crore.

India plans to raise its expenditure in the education sector by about a quarter to Rs 520.6 billion (USD 11.50 billion) in the next financial year, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday in his budget speech, reinforcing the country's push to create a skilled workforce to keep up with fast-paced growth.
"Over 70% of Indians will be of working age in 2025. In this context, universalising access to secondary education, increasing the percentage of our scholars in higher education and providing skill training is necessary," Mukherjee said.
Education companies cheered the announcement and stocks of Aptech Ltd, Everonn Education, Edserv Softsystems, NIIT Ltd rose 3 to 5% in intra-day trade immediately after the announcement.
"It will definitely help India to build a skilled workforce which will sustain industrial growth in years to come," said Pramod Maheshwari, Chief Executive of Career Point Infosystems, a Rajasthan-based tutorial services provider.
India's $86 billion education sector is increasingly joined by private players in its rapid expansion, while increased government spending and fresh interest from foreigners and large funds who are pumping in money in services, technology and infrastructure play the catalyst.
"In India only about 5% of students have access to any vocational training as compared to about 60% in developed countries so the gap is very big and the government is also trying to fill it by ensuring students who graduate have the necssary skills which helps them get employment," said Ninad Karpe, chief executive and managing director, Aptech.
Increased allocation for schools is likely to boost business opportunities for IT-education companies in terms of information and communication technologies, and public-private partnership in K-12 and vocational segments, mainly for Educomp, Everonn and NIIT Ltd, Angel Broking said in a post-budget note.
"I think government should come up with a framework to allow the private sector to participate in these kinds of initiatives. As a company we are already focussing on skill development and we see this as an opportunity to contribute significantly in government initiatives," Career Point's Maheshwari said.
Blended growth rate in Indian education services firms is seen at 21% this year, according to ThomsonReuters StarMine smart estimates, outstripping the 18% growth forecast in the information technology sector.
Blended growth rate is the average of expected growth in earnings per share from last year to this year and from this year to next year alongwith the expected long-term growth rate.

Cash bonanza
The government will also infuse as much as Rs 2 billion each in Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, the nation's premium engineering institute, and Maulana Azad Education Foundation, apart from other grants to various institutions.
The National Skill Development Council (NSDC) is on course to create 15 crore skilled workforce two years ahead of 2022, the stipulated target year, he said.
"It has already sanctioned 26 projects with a total funding of Rs 658 crore. These projects alone are expected to create more than 4 crore skilled workforce over the next ten years," Mukherjee said.
One of the prime challenges for India's surging growth is severe skills shortage -- spanning all levels, from management to frontline operations, and all sectors, from IT to fast food-- , which alongwith inadequate infrastructure and poor governance could mar the India story.
The government will also invest as much as Rs 210 billion in Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, its elementary education programme.
"Our participation in the government schemes is already there...our orderbook is definitely going to increase because of increased outlay in overall education and focus in these areas," said S Giridharan, Chief Executive Officer of Edserv.

Sri Vangipuram Srinathachari needs no introduction. He is quite popular and well-known as "Double Guinness world Record Holder", Life Skills and Personality Development Trainer, Assistant Professor at Palamoor Univesity and a good motivator.

As SSC examinations are nearing and not all the students are able to participate in the on going Examination Preparation camp at Shadnagar.

In order to boost up the morale and prepare many students to face the examination with courage, fearless, aiming high and highlighting the importance of board examination in ones career, VMF organised two motivation session at Karvanga and Nagarkarnool on February 18, 2011 and Sri Vangipuram Srinathachary was the Resource Person.

At Karvanga around 350 students attended the sessions along with teachers, Headmasters, Localities and other government staff.

Similarly, the session was arranged at the ongoing Circus Premises at Nagarkarnool. The session was attended by 15 schools of the region. Around 1800 students participated along with respective school teachers and Headmasters/Headmistress. Guest of Honour was DEO Sri VijayaKumar.

The session gave scope to interact and also helped the students to know about effective Time Management technique to be followed during examination. Further, Sri Srinathachary also with introduced and charged the students with innovative activities.

DEO Sri Vijayakumar in his speech said " As circus involves lot of concentration, preparedness,and proper timing. It also involves and gives scope for trying out new techniques. Similar is also SSC Board examination for every students. One has to be prepare well and face it with courage to come out with flying colours".

Last year, Vandemataram Foundation along with Council for Green Revolution set out Green Campaign in Waranagal and Mahaboobnagar Districts. Phase-I Motivation and awareness on environmental issues on and Phase -II -Distribution of Plant samplings. As part of Phase-III Smt Leela Laxma Reddy President of Council for Green Revolution and Vandemataram Foundation General Secretary Sri Madhava Reddy visited almost 40 schools part of VMF activities in Mahaboobnagar District to visit the schools and villages.

As it was announced that the best caretaker of plants would be awarded. Personal visit also gave a confidence that collective efforts would bring good results. On February 17, 2011 three ZPHS schools in Vatyam, Kummera and Tudukurti were visited. Around 5000 samplings were distributed in these regions and personal visit and tips on upbringing of plants boosted the children. Smt .Leela Laxma Reddy was touched by the involvement shown by school students, teachers and Villagers in making the villages as green and clean.

This year to She promised on behalf of Council for Green Revolution to distribute more plants as a part of Green Campaign.

80 students 20 Teachers participated from 20 High schools of Mahaboobnagar.

Chief Guests were DEO - SRI VIJAY KUMAR, SRI PAPPI REDDY IAS (Retd.), COUNCIL FOR GREEN REVOLUTION PRESIDENT Smt. LEELA REDDY and SRI LAXMA REDDY.

The emphasis was building green and clean village and healthy environment.

Apart from entertainment the puppet show stressed upon the importance of education, school development, village development and as a social responsibility give back our village, society and country.

One of our volunteers Mr Anil kumar who is basically a chauffeur, played and manipulated the puppets and also modulated his voice to suit Donga Malesh and Yadava Sreenu.

VARADHI PROGRAMME BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVANS VIDYALAYA, BASHEER BAGH TO KONAPUR VILLAGE FEBRUARY 02, 2011

Konapur village at a distance of 56 KM from Hyderabad. It is 2KM from Ayyasagaram Kshetram.Around 120 students from class IV, V and 16 staff of BVB Vidyalaya participate in Varadhi Programme.

The students started from Hyderabad at 6:45am to Konapur Village. Firstly they visited Ayyasagaram Kshetram Temple of Swamy Veerabhadreswara and Mother Saraswati. All the students chanted Saraswati vandana. After having breakfast proceeded to Konapur village. BVB students were given a grand welcome. Each BVB student was received with a hibiscus flower. Traditional Kolattam dance rally performed by Konapur upper primary school students amazed all. Few BVB students and teachers joined the rally and danced to the rhythmic tune.

The beauty of Konapur UPS is the school is blessed with four huge tamarind trees. These trees were planted by the village elders in order to ensure cool shade for the students. Then under the cool shade of four huge both the school together sang their respective school prayers. Then in pairs i.e., 4:2 ratio (4 BVB students and 2 Konapur students) accompanied by teachers left for village and field visit. For many of the BVB students it was for the first time they were visit village. They were amazed and thrilled visiting sunflower field, paddy field and tasting ripe tamarind. They were puzzled seeing old practices of cooking stove, pounding and grinding stones. Visiting potter, carpenter, and village huts and houses made them to realize that villagers were quite happy and accommodative than urban settlers.

It was joyous moment when they sighted big size chameleon. Again, it was recollection of the lesson on 'Plants growth'. Amazed to sight Cows-calves, buffaloes- calves, herd of sheep and goats, bullocks, hens- chicks, dogs, butterflies and insects.

After the lunch students assembled for cultural exchange programme. Konanpur students performed a beautiful group dance composed by the cultural team member Ms. Sarita. BVB students also sang songs and danced to the music played.

Then students and teachers exchanged their feelings about the visits.For many of the city children, the cool breeze of konapur gave a feeling of air conditioning effect. Many students preferred village life than to city. As fresh air and lush of greenery was the main attraction and is absent in the city. This was followed by Joy of Giving.BVB students distributed a school bag, notebooks and pencil boxes to all the Konapur students. A students of BVB sponsored steel tiffin boxes to all the students. Similarly another student of BVB sponsored biscuits to all. Apart from this sports materials, water tanks, educational charts, story books, school kit under Vatsalyapurana programme( orphan and single parent child) cloths for old, were also distributed.

Headmistress Smt P.R. Maheswari Madam wants to extend the programme as exchange programme and said that Konapur students visit to BVB Vidyalaya, Hyderabad shortly.

It was indeed a memorable day and BVB students wanted to stay back in Konapur and spend at least one night in the village. Many expressed their revisit to the village along with their family members.

As any event coming to an end, this visit by the little heroes and brave girls too came to an end . They all started back at 5:00pm to Hyderabad. city.

This is his smalll write -up .

There was this "Urban kids meet Rural kids" programme conceived and organised by a group of my friends.

Hyderabad, despite the best efforts by Chandrababu Naidu, is one of those ideal cities where an hour's journey in any direction is enough to land you amidst serene country side.

These city kids were gungho about this event. So were the parents, given that their kids will now get to know that milk comes - not from fridge alone but from some milk animals too.

All gathered at the agreed time of 6am at a pickup point with packed breakfasts. With good byes and thrusting of extra money into a few hesitant kids' pockets - to buy mineral water bottles - done, the bus moved on. There were still a few parents riding on their Scootys along side the bus shouting instructions through the windows, aimed at their - ipod turned on already, I am not listening to you anymore dad - kids. All of their instructions revolved around the evils of drinking the water, offered at villagers' homes.

I was not alone among those people sitting in the bus who thought - next time there needs to be a 'Urban legends demystified' tour. For the parents, to shut them up. (For the moment, I turned on my own Ipod to shut them out).

The buses wound down the road and so was the breakfast down the gullet of kids. We were actually supposed to eat it at a hillock enroute. But that being an early day, you see, we were hungry. Either ways, we have those extra bucks thrust into our pockets. May be there will be a few hotels out there in the village. No? Ok, may be a fast food joint, better still Chandrababu Naidu permitting, may be a KFC?! Thanks, developmental Politicians!

We pulled into the village and we felt like a politicians our selves. There was a reception committee of kids and elders complete with garlands and flowers. Every village kid armed with one flower each, gathered from their own kitchen gardens, to pass onto us bus full of guests. There was a village band playing tirelessly and also a colourful Kolatam performance by rural kids - who seemed to have practiced unending for months, like they do on Republic day parade, in anticipation of this special day. Urban kids were awestruck. Some of them went back to the bus, threw their bags and shoes inside and joined the Kolatam line to do an impromptu jig. It was heartening to see the hard practiced village kids yeilding their places and kolatam sticks to their dazed counterparts from the city. They started to guide them how to strike it right.

The procession went from the village entry point to the Panchayat office with rural and urban kids dancing gay abandon, step in step, bare footed on hot gravel. The only people who might have felt any heat could be, the cynics who will be scooty riding to their way back in the city.

After a few hours, they all congregated under tamarind trees for a meal. This meal was special. It was made out of ingredients that the kids gathered them selves from the fields. It had Bhindi, carefully plucked by Tanya Mathur braving the prickles the plant has. It had mushrooms, collected by Sarat Jaiswal tredding in the slushy wet fields. It had eggs too, gathered by Anirudh Ranagarajan from a smelly poultry farm. It also had sweet dish made out of Jaggery and Tamarind, plucked by Komal from the tree full of crawling red ants. For drinking water, however, there were Aquafina mineral water bottle crates. Perhaps ordered from the one of the dozen Pepsi outlets serving the village. The rural folks clearly out thought us urbanites there.

My favorite remained the aftermeal mouth freshner - a fistful of fresh Saunf twigs plucked by my self from the Saunf plants grown in every kitchen garden in that village. The after-taste will linger on for ever, in all of us.

Inaugural Function of Examination Preparation Camp for 10th class at Shadnagar, Mahaboobnagar

Yet another year of challenge set before the Vandemataram Foundation. This year the venue for the examination preparation camp has been shifted from Ayyasagaram Kheshram, Kalvakurti to Shadnagar in Mahaboobnagar.

The inaugural function commenced with patriotic song bowing to the mother earth and mother India to make all her children, self sufficient and self reliant.

Cheif Guset for the Inaugural Function were DEO Sri VijayaKumar garu, Dy. DEO Smt Usha Rani garu, Shadnagar MLA Sri Pratap Reddy garu, Prof Kasi Reddy Venkata Reddy (Retd, Osmania University), Malayala Ashram Swamiji Sri Dayananda guruji, School Headmasters, Teachers, Parents and local leaders and Youth.

Total 170 students have now enrolled for this camp : 80 girl students and 110 Boy Students. 20 more students are expected to jion the camp by Monday.

DEO Sri VijayaKumar garu in his cheif guest address mentioned that he has drawn lots of inspiration from VMF and following the same has similar camps in various parts of the districts too with the local donors support. As such camps are yielding good results.

Shadnagar MLA Sri Pratap Reddy garu in his speech firstly, welcomed the change of venue from kalvakurti region to shadnagar. stressed upon the strengthening governmentt schools as well qualified teachers are working in government schools and much of work and funding of government is diverted for school and educational development. He also in his speech appreciated the VMF efforts in organising such camps and extended his full support for the camp.

The foundation is indebted to the Malayala Ashram and Swamiji Sri Dayananda guruji for considering our request and allwoing the VMF to hold the camp at the ashram. We shall ever remain oblige to yoo and your hospitality.

VMF Visits High Schools in and near Suryapet, Nalgonda district

Destination: Suryapet- a revenue division, one of the major and cleanest towns in Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Population of the town is about 1,50,000. Suryapet is equidistant from Hyderabad and Vijayawada and is around 120km and about 4 hours by road from Hyderabad.

The Visit: Three volunteers from VMF- Balendra, Madhav Reddy and Navin Rao, on the 5th Feb, 2011
paid an evaluative visit to schools in and around Suryapet. The team first visited the ZPH School in Chivvemla, which is 5km from Suryapet. In the entrance of the school on the left side there are three class rooms under temporary sheds for 6th to 8th standards for English medium students each housing 50 students. This high school runs both Telugu medium (600 students) and English medium (150) classes and has 20+ teachers and 5 teachers trainees who are undergoing B.Ed training in nearby colleges. The 10th class by itself comprises more than 25% (175 students) of school strength. Mid-day meals are served in the Temporary sheds for English medium school facility itself. The classes 10thclass pass percentage was around 70% last year.

This being a complex school, 12 nearby Primary schools get benefited by their facilities. Most of the students attending these schools belong to tribal community and come from all around the district and some even from nearby Khammam district. So serving this school indirectly benefits all the tribals in nearby areas. The school is well equipped with computer lab. The school wanted some study material and also wanted to send few bright students to VMF 10th class examination (45-day residential) camp from February 9th in Thurur, Warangal which is 50km from Suryapet.

The Headmaster Avadhanam instructed all the 10th class teachers and 10th class students to assemble under the huge Banyan tree for interaction with VMF volunteers. Volunteer Madhav explained about VMF and how it is helping students by providing tuition centers in the school premises to high school students and he invited bright students to avail of the examination camps. Navin Rao spoke about Swami Vivekananda and His message to the youth about Sraddha (faith in oneself) and Brahmacharya (continence) for facing challenges boldly and improving academic performance. Balendra gave several examples of great people who started out poor still achieved great success in life. VMF Nalgonda’s representative Gandhi and school Headmaster talked about some of the future activities VMF could potentially conduct in the school. VMF gave medals and book of Vivekananda- His Call to the Nation, a compilation of Swamiji’s message to youth to high school students who addressed the gathering. These students talked about their career goals and gave advice to fellow students for improving academic performance.

The VMF team’s next stop was at ZPH School in Suryapet. The school has 350 students with 21+ teachers. The 10th class pass percentage is dismally low around 50% with absenteeism around 25%.

The 10th class students from nearby 8 high schools along with teachers, education department heads were invited for special VMF meeting from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Around 400 students and teachers participated. During the meeting girls’ education was stressed upon and announced how VMF can help bright girls pursue their college education through Sri Sarada Bala Vikasa Kendras. The schools were also receptive about running study centers in their campus in order to inculcate discipline among students and increase their pass percentage. The girls and boys were energized and showed enthusiasm in interacting with VMF volunteers. But due to time constraints only 12-15 students could talk. These students were given medals and books by VMF. Headmistress of one of the schools also spoke about how she got inspired after attending the meeting. The meeting ended around 5:40pm when the VMF team left for Hyderabad.

Sister Nivedita High School visit to Kotra Village-- Varadhi Programme

It is indeed a pleasurable news to share that more and more schools are welcoming Varadhi Programme.

This time it was Sister Nivedita High School visit to Kotra Village, Veldanda Mandal, Mahaboobnagar District. Kotra village is at a distance of 80 km from Hyderabad. 45 students of Class VIII and 20 staff took part in this Varadhi village exposure visit programme.

After halting at Ayyasaga Kshetram for Breakfast, the school proceeded to Kotra Village.

Kotra village students extended a warm Red Carpet welcome to Sister Nivedita High School students. After going around the village students assembled near the Kotra school play ground. Together they recited their school prayers. The city born students were amazed to hear Mandal and District read by the primary school students.

This was followed by special " DAPPU" (Dappu-Drum)dance and " DAPPU GYMNASTIC" by Kotra students. At the end even the Sister Nivedita students also participated and had a pleasurable moment of holding Dappu in their hands.

Then in pairs the students and teachers set out for village and field visit. Green lustrous paddy field, groundnuts, and corn fields welcomed them. Happy to taste raw and ripe tamarind. Catching the sight of Creepers, climbers was unbelievable. Kotra village adorations are Palm tree, tamarind trees and papyas.

Well, after the hearty lunch all assembled for cultural exchange programme. Kotra students sang wonderful Patriotic songs. Sister Nivedita students also rendered a group song.

Then they exchanged their feelings. It was amazing that most of the city students, it was indeed pathetic to see the villagers living in such a poverty, with out powers supply fro most of the days. Open drainage also one of the reasons for spread of dreadful diseases. The city students were touched by the simplicity, generosity and humbleness of Kotra Village students.

Every students vowed to work for village developmental as they grow

Well, the students distributed toys, educational materials, sports kit, water tanks, clothing, bags, books and other useful things to the school and the students.

It was a heavenly day for the primary students. The tiny tots were holding, hugging and kissing toys and faces expressing boundless of happiness.

Well, the joyous moment ended when the students of Sister Nivedita left for Hyderabad.

Smt. Jayanthi Venkataraman Headmistress and Smt Indira Vice Principal and tour coordinator expressed the need for such exposure cum educational village visit for every city child.

This would provide a platform to explore, exchange and exhibit talents, culture, and knowledge.

Appeal for Noble Cause to help poor deprived students of Mahaboobnagar District towards Examination Preparation Camp for 10^th class students commencing from February 9, 2011 to March 21, 2011 at Malayalaya Ashram, opposite to Milk center, Shadnagar Town, Jedcherla Road, Mahaboobnagar.

It is a Forty one days residential camp for 10^th class students commencing from February 9, 2011 to March 21, 2011. Two hundred students shall take part in this residential camp from ninety government schools of Shadnagar Division. Apart from students volunteers and teachers also take part in the camp.

Vandemataram Foundation with the help of like minded is holding Examination Preparation camp and raising donations for the last four years. India Cements and VMF Team Up To Enhance Government Schools’ Education In Malkapur

VMF personnel from Hyderabad- Ram Chilukuri and Navin Rao visited the India Cements facility in Malkapur on January 21, 2011. This facility is located 17km from Thandur, a dominant cement producer in A.P., 100km from Gachibowli, Hyderabad in Ranga Reddy district. The office manager Venkata Ramana joined the team which proceeded to the nearby Zilla Parishad High School to see how the students of 10th class can gain help during their examination camp that has commenced from December 27, 2010 to continue till mid-March. In this examination camp, undertaken for the first time by the District Education department, the class teachers conduct intense classes from 9am-5pm. The team got there around 11:45am and spent around 2 hours. Two local well wishers of VMF from Thandur also joined the meeting.

The ZPH School (6th to 10th class) is around 5km from India Cements plant. The strength of the school was 428- 232 boys (55% of total) and 196 girls (45% of total). Along with the mainstream Telugu medium of instruction they are also offering English medium classes to a minority of 53 students from 6th-10th class. The staff comprises of 12 teachers holding a P.G. degree along with B.Ed. The same staff teaches both Telugu and English medium classes. Staff is well paid with average annual salaries above Rs. 20,000 p.m. India Cements has done such a great job addressing the infrastructural needs of this school that all nearby schools are also deriving benefit from it. The Principal was not available but the team interacted with 3 young teachers who gave a good feedback as summarized below.

1. The school is a complex school (shares its infrastructure) for 7 nearby high schools. So help given to this one school will benefit all the nearby high schools which use their facilities.
2. They wish to have a science lab with equipment, material and some study material. They were asked to provide a detailed list of items needed. They assured that nearby high schools can also take advantage of this lab. The estimated expense for the science lab would be around Rs.70,000/-. It would be helpful if India Cements can help with this expense.
3. The pass percentage for 10th class went up from the earlier year’s 58% to 73% last year. Thanks to additional young and energetic staff. This year school is aiming for higher pass percentage.
4. A total of 77 students is currently attending 10th class camp. Before the start of the camp the fail percentage was around 50% in at least one of the subjects. 10th class instruction starts in June/July and ends in December. So, the camp is the only opportunity to improve the pass percentage. Toward the end of the camp, teachers conduct pre-exams before the SSC Board exams last week of March. India Cements also hired two part-time volunteers to assist the teachers during morning and evening hours. Both the Education Department and India cements have provided examination guides. The teachers have requested for school supplies and study material: note books, maps, campus etc., and VMF’s exam preparation material (a special collection including examination questions from past 10 years). The cost estimate for 80 sets amounting Rs.20,000 was given to India Cements. For long-term effectiveness VMF is looking into running study center for 9th/10th class students in all the 8 high schools with its volunteers. VMF is also considering running a tuition service with girl volunteers for primary school students in and around Malkapur under Sarada Bala Vikasa Kendra project.

5. It has been observed that most of the 10th class students look underweight and underfed. Apparently many of them do not eat breakfast at home and go hungry until the mid-day meal which is served around 1pm in the school premises. Less than a simple meal of rice and dal (cooked by the Anganwadi members under the government free mid-day meal program) was served on the day of the visit. The meal costs Rs. 4.50 per student to government, thanks to subsidized rice provided to school. The ladies running Anganwadi experiencing difficulty in rain and heat have been in need of a sheltered kitchen for cooking midday meals. VMF requested India Cements to provide snacks like milk biscuits during breakfast and evening tea time which would cost less than Rs.10/- per student costing a total of Rs. 24,000 for all students attending the camp. The milk biscuits can be purchased in Thandur and supplied to high school for remaining days of the camp.

After completing their visit to ZP High School in Malkapur, the team went to nearby primary schools and met few teachers. Two primary schools are run side by side in the same campus. The interaction was brief and lasted for 30 minutes, after which the visiting team left for a late lunch in Thandur and returned to Hyderabad around 5pm.

Vandemataram foundation: 62nd Republic Day Celebration

Rajasthan Graduate Association organized Cultural programme to commemorate 62nd Republic Day celebration at V.V.Function Hall, Jambagh, Koti. It was great pleasure that the invitation was extended to Vandemataram Foundation to be part of the programme.

In this regard around 70 students from Rangapur village Ongur Mandal ZPHS, Marcherla Village Kalwakurthi Mandal ZPHS, Kalwakurthi Government High School and Sri Rangapuram village Pebberu Mandal ZPHS of Mahaboobnagar District performed ballet on 'Jai Bharati', ' Jai Ho', 'Ye Mere watan ke Logo', 'Movannela Janda' and ' Bharata Matha Putrulam'.

Students were trained under the able guidance and Vandemataram Foundation Cultural wing trainers Sri Ramachandra, Sri Raju, Kumari Sarita, Sri Narayana Goud and Sri Mohan.

Chief Guest for the celebration was Indian Idol talent winner in dance Sri Vinod Takur. He not only appreciated students performance but joined them during performance.

The performance made by these government students enthralled the Hyderabad audience and congratulated them. Students were gifted gifts and sweets as token of love and appreciation.

Similarly Peddapur ZPHS students performed 'Dappu Parade' at Mahaboobnagar Parade ground in the presence of Mahaboobnagar District Collector Sri Purushotam Reddy.

Udham Singh (December 26, 1899 - July 31, 1940) was an Indian Sikh independence activist, best known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer in March 1940 in what has been described as an avenging of the Jallianwallabagh Massacre. Udham Singh changed his name to "Mohammad Singh Azad" and was also known as Ram Mohammed Singh Azad, symbolizing the unification of the three major religions of India: Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. Singh is considered one of the best-known of the more extremist revolutionaries of the Indian freedom struggle; he is also sometimes referred to as Shaheed-i-Azam Sardar Udham Singh

The thing about life in rural India, is that what normally takes a week to transpire, can be crammed into the events of a single day. I'm not referring to expedient bureaucracy, rather I am speaking to a phenomenon which only travel seems to induce.

Since 7 a.m., I've been watching the scenery. With each new bend of the road, I wish for a satellite camera behind my eyes, to telecast the wonders I'm taking in: rock outcroppings, stone forts carved into the mountainside, dry riverbeds, palm trees, troops of monkeys, women drying rice in the road, cotton fields. Our car stops at bridge. A crane is lifting a bus that has crashed out of the river. A little further on, we are stopped again. This time, to be blessed by religious pilgrims on foot, celebrating their way from temple to temple.

Around noon, we reach our destination, a training conference in the Thorrur region of Andra Pradesh, facilitated by the Vandemataram Foundation. We are received by Mr. Sri Ravinder, a tireless child rights and education advocate, who has devoted his life to empowering students and changing the education system across India.

The workshop we are visiting, is focused on mentorship training, and was birthed from a series of studies by the Vandemataram Foundation (VF) and other child rights/education groups, which found the following:

*The average teacher to student ratio in Andrha Pradesh is 1 to 55.

*Parents who can afford to do so, are sending their children to private schools, where both education standard for students and pay scale for instructors are far higher. The results are two- fold: 1.) Children left behind suffer not just from lack of resources/opportunities afforded by higher social strata and family income, but 2.) teachers left in rural government school zones are paid less and have little motivation, as there is no standardized catchment system for testing or job performance ratings in place.

*It is estimated that 43,000 of 360,000 teachers in Andrha Pradesh are simply not showing up for work.

*A staggering outcome of the aforementioned, is that 65% of students leaving rural government schools can't read or write.

In response, the dedicated team at Vandmataram Foundation (VF) devised a grassroots model of tutoring, based upon the principles of mentoring. It works like this:

Primary schools in India run from grades 1 through 5. Secondary education, or High School, is considered grades 6-10. From grade 10 forward, students are theoretically free to choose going to work, or continuing on to grades +1 and +2, the equivalent of US grades 11 and 12. These two years are dedicated to college prep, whereby students must decide on a vocation/course of study, i.e., engineering, law enforcement, pre-med, etc. The reality is that many students are forced to stop pursuing education after grade 10, either due to lack of funds or early marriage. It is the goal of the Vandemataram Foundation (VF) to facilitate each child in finishing and pursuing the higher learning of their choosing.

To that end, volunteers are selected from grades +1 and +2, to receive a week-long mentorship/tutor training. (Amazingly, the training camp we visited was filled with all girl students!) These volunteers are paid a stipend, tuition and travel expenses, and in turn, will spend two hours per day working with troubled students in one of the rural schools adopted by VF. In addition to providing general studies tutoring, the volunteers provide mini-workshops, which focus on social responsibility, civic engagement and giving back to their respective communities.

The initial results in the 150 schools in which this program runs, have been very promising. Parental participation has sky-rocketed, without which, children are often relegated into forced labor. VF dreams of providing mentorship for each of the 1400 villages and their schools in the Warangal District, and LaVya dreams of bolstering their capacity to do so.

After lunch and tea at the VF training center, we wandered to a neighboring primary school (more on this in Take 2). When we returned, dusk was settling, and we were invited in to the main hall. Removing our shoes (learning institutions are considered sacred), we were ushered forward, to take part in the evening assembly. Kiran, Shridhar and I had settled into a groove of improvised speeches throughout the day, and we assumed this would be no different. At the outset, however, we knew our hearts were in deep, and our heads would be vying to catch up.

First, we were given the honored task of lighting the candles before prayer. Taking turns speaking to the students with Ravinder and the other VF instructors, I felt goosebumps as I turned to read the inscription on a blackboard, "When your commitment is deeper than the sea, And your ambition is taller than the sky, Then your future will be brighter than the sun."

As I turned my attention back to

the room, I realized Ravinder was addressing me directly, "It is tradition, that when a new sister comes to the house, she is received with gifts and blessed with new sari." It still hadn't sunk in. He was talking about me! The next thing I knew, I was surrounded by "little sisters", pinning flowers in hair, decorating my arms with bangles and offering me a platter of fruit and saffron.

I choked back tears and surprise, as I was led down the aisle, where I spent the next 20 minutes giddy as a new bride. I was wrapped in a lustrous gold sari, blessed and bhindi'd, then led back into the lecture hall to applause. In my absence, Kiran and Shridhar had been blessed as brothers and presented with scarves. Scrambling for words, we took to the microphone. It was surreal. An essence of floating in mirth.

When the assembly ended, I was rushed by new sisters. "Sister! A hug, please! Sister! Kiss my cheek!" I felt like a rock star, as paper and pen were thrust my way, waiting for an autograph.

Seriously?

Driving home in euphoric tiredness, I could only think that all I had done was show up. All we had done was care. Yet, it felt like we had eaten the sun.

Bharat Vikas sangam: ‘Kalburgi Kampu' gets good response

A large number of children from various schools in Gulbarga, Yadgir and neighbouring districts participated in the third edition of the Bharat Vikas Sangam “Kalburgi Kampu” on Saturday to have a glimpse of former President A P J Abdul Kalam and hear him and if possible pose a question to him.

They came in chartered buses, school buses, NEKRTC buses, autorickshaws and other public transport and made a beeline to the venue to be in forefront of the sprawling pandal that had been set up to accommodate about 30,000 people.

Even before Dr. Kalam's arrival, the venue was jam-packed and many students and teachers occupied the open places, braving the sun, to listen to his speech.

On his arrival, Dr. Kalam broke through the security cordon and briskly walked towards the cheering and waving students seated in the front rows and shook hands with them before proceeding towards the dais. Dr. Kalam paid floral tributes to the portrait of educationist Madan Mohan Malaviya to mark his 150th birth anniversary.

The entire proceedings were lively, even as Dr. Kalam struck the right chord from the beginning of his 60-minute address and kept the audience attentive and responsive, with various anecdotes.

Dr. Kalam, soon after his speech, said he would answer only five questions from students because of shortage of time. Dr. Kalam pulled up the volunteers when they tried to prevent them from asking questions and said, “There should be no censor on questions of students.”

“Children born of prayer will have tremendous will power and purity and they will achieve everything on their own. Even if put in most difficult circumstances they will come up in life.”

Based on this premise, Sri Sarada Bala Samskara Kendra project was launched by Vande Mataram Foundation with the blessings and funding from Ramakrishna math, Hyderabad. The objective of this project is to imbue spiritual values, give knowledge on balanced diet and pre-natal care to pregnant women, in rural areas. College going girl volunteers are appointed to
impart this knowledge to families and pregnant women in their villages on monthly basis. The volunteers are in turn are trained by VMF toward the fulfillment of this objective. The girl volunteers are paid monthly for providing the above service and also for the daily tuition they provide to primary school students.

Sri Sarada Bala Samskara Kendra project, recently conducted the inaugural training program to college going girl volunteers in Thorur, Warangal district.

The training was held for 3 days from 16th to 18th December 2010 at the VMF training facility. The first batch of 160 selected volunteers out of a total of 350 girl volunteers attended this program. They were selected based on their economic background, educational qualifications and aptitude for college education and higher goals in life.

By the afternoon of the 16th December, the girl volunteers most of whom are intermediate students (11th and 12th graders) along with VMF mandal-in-charges arrived at the training facility. To and fro bus expenses are paid by VMF. The volunteers settled down by late afternoon. Boarding and meals were provided by VMF at the training facility itself during all 3 days. VMF spent
approximately Rs.250/- per person costing a total of Rs.40, 000 for the 3-day program for the first batch training. The remaining volunteers will undergo training toward the end of December 2010.

On the first day orientation was given by Mr. Ravindra, founder of VMF. On the second and third days experts from different fields were invited to talk on the importance of Balanced diet, Character building, and Nation building. On the third day, Swami Sitikanthananda, Maharaj Niyamachaitanya, Navin Rao from RK math, Hyderabad and Mr Mallikarjun ‘Yoga Guru’ Retd. Chief Engineer, National Highways, Warangal attended the program. Swami Sitikanthananda gave an inspiring talk on how great leaders are born to great mothers. He pronounced the wonders that mental and spiritual cultivation by girls and pregnant women can do for the welfare of the country with the illustrations of several pious mothers who gave birth to great leaders. A well educated, morally and spiritual minded woman can become an excellent role model for not just her family but for the entire village. Swamiji gave examples of Mahatama Gandhi, Shivaji, Lord Krishna, Jesus Christ, Bharata (after whom India was named as Bharat), Prahlada, Abhimanyu etc. Maharaj Niyamachaitanya spoke briefly about self confidence and shared his positive
impressions on the program. Mr Mallikarjun passed on valuable information to the volunteers about the role of good values, will power and the dos and don’ts in life. Mr. Navin interacted with girl volunteers who were already providing tuition service including one girl volunteer who was able to provide tuition service to 70 students! Due to lack of time only 15 volunteers could
share their experience of the training and the service they are providing to school children. They expressed their happiness for having attended the program. They felt that participating in the program not only enriched their knowledge but also enhanced their confidence. They all felt that they can greatly contribute to the welfare of the village. The meeting concluded around
4:30pm with prayer and distribution of book set emphasizing the greatness of Indian culture and lives of national leaders. The books included Sumati Satakam, Sri Krishna Satakam,
Pushpanjali from RK math, VMF prayer book and more books on character building. The books cost more than Rs. 300/- per person and were sponsored by various donors.

10 Days Conclave

The December 2010 program will bring good thought and good action together, to be showcased on one platform. Through Kalburgi Kampu 2010 the message of “man-centered thinking to nature-centered thinking” will reach out to all minds that are open to transformation and are willing to look at the future with a fresh and radiant mindset. The 10-day long events of Kalburgi Kampu are being organized to hit on the attitudes of mankind with its break-through thinking. Bringing together of “good people”, who wish to do good for the Country and its people, will in turn drive into a multiple confidence-building exercise, and will give a new strength to the “Sajjan Shakti” of the Country. Unification and strengthening of villages with the common thread of “Jan, Jal, Jangal, Janwar, Zameen, Zubaan”, and pooling-in of resources will inspire the much needed changes in the Country. The focus on being connected with nature will also bring about changes in the present disoriented work culture. This in turn will bring about change in outlook of both – the villagers and the city residents towards the villages. This new-age INVERSE thinking will dissuade the villagers from leaving their villages and the brain-drain of the educated youth from the Country and will eventually connect them back to their roots. A transformation of attitudes is the only means to protect the “Asmita” of our land. Each day of Kalburgi Kampu has been devoted to a specific theme as mentioned below :

VIKAS PRADARSHINI (23.12.10): Total dedication for total transformation

The Inaugural day of the program will be dedicated to exhibiting and projecting talents from all over India. It will be a confidence building measure for all the social forces. There will be around 500 stalls including a brief introduction of KBBS – Sedam, HKAV – Sedam and Bharat Vikas Sangam. The Pradarshini, which will go on till 1st January 2011, will bring to light the concerted efforts being put in by various good organizations and people towards Nation-building and will inspire the meeting-of-minds that is bound to happen in the following 9 days. Organic farming, swadeshi, alternate medicinal therapies are some of the themes that will be highlighted in the Vikas Pradarshini. All exhibition will be presented in Kannada, Hindi and English to make sure that the language does not put any hindrance for any body who has come to witness the Kalburgi Kampu.

MATRISHAKTI SANGAM (24.12.10) : Good woman makes a great Nation

The first day of the program will see the coming together of a congregation of over one lakh mothers and children below the age of 10 years. It is said that one mother is equal to 100 teachers. The important role of the mother in human development will be the emphasis. The interaction will help making the mothers more conscious of their role and will bring about an overall positive change in attitude towards rampant consumerism. A unique program “Kaituttina Uta” will take place wherein Mothers of Gulbarga will bring food from their home and serve the entire congregation with motherly love and affection, the life breath of Indian culture. This will be a great experience for all the visitors who will come to participate in Kalburgi Kampu.

GYANASHAKTI SANGAM (25.12.10) : Education is the manifestation of perfection already existent in man

There will be a collection of over one-lakh students from Vth – XIIth standards, teachers and school management from all over India. The day’s program will give boost to the learning-teaching process and will discuss its role in life building, with a strong emphasis on the importance of a sound value education system. Like a strong foundation is essential in making a building that can withstand the test of time, a strong value system strengthens the students to face any challenge in their lifespan. The students and teachers together will be inspired towards a more conscious educational process and in bringing forth an inspired and ignited new generation.

YUVA SHAKTI SANGAM (26.12.10) : Dreams float on turbulent young minds, a mind which wants to bring new order, an order of strength and thundering power

Over one lakh Degree students, University heads and youngsters between the age-group 18-25 years will be brought together on this day. The focus of interaction will be laying emphasis on higher education and developing soft-skills aimed at personality and career growth. An inspired youth can help the country usher in a quantum jump into unexplored vistas of positive growth. The day’s program will inspire them in taking the task of Nation-building ahead with a new fervor. The special focus is on entrepreneurship and creativity.

UDYOG SHAKTI SANGAM (27.12.10) : Facilitate production by masses

The Udyog Shakti Sangam will lay stress on the prevalent vision and work culture and the necessary and revolutionary changes required which will inspire a fervent growth of various home-based and small-scale industries (grih udyog and laghu udyog) and renew focus on self-employment. This sort of orientation of industrial growth will help in the equi-distribution of wealth and bring about an entrepreneurial outlook for today’s youth. Inspiring the congregation towards sustainable economic growth will be the focus of the program.

AROGYA SHAKTI SANGAM (28.12.10) : A sound body will be the home of a sound mind

The focus of the program will be on changing the attitudes of people towards their health and the measures to be taken for a conscious turn towards the alternate medicinal system. The emphasis will be on the motto “Prevention is better than cure”. The Indian kitchen is a storehouse of medicines and here is where people should turn to resolve their health issues. Lack of home-based solutions is the reason behind the use of Allopathic systems by the West. Dialogue with learned personalities will inspire change in attitude towards usage of home remedies, Yoga, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, Siddha and Ayurveda. Awareness will make more and more people turn towards self-care and non-invasive means of health care, which will lead to usage of Allopathic medicines and treatments only in extreme cases.

GRAM + KRISHI SHAKTI SANGAM (29.12.10) : Krishito natu Durbhiksha

The motto “Mera Zila – Mera Desh” will inspire the congregation of villagers and agriculturists who will come together for the Krishi Shakti Sangam. Our Country is divided into 85 specific agro-eco-zones and each of them has very specific strengths and weaknesses. Their solution lies in finding area specific solutions and not blindly aping the West. The concept of Grih as the first place of worship, Vidya Mandir as the second place of worship and the Dev Mandir as third place of worship, will be planted during the day’s activities and will be the basis for further rural growth. The delegates will be inspired towards ways of best utilization of soil, water, natural resources, animals etc., thus prodding them from a machine-centric lifestyle to a cow-centered lifestyle. The change in attitudes towards the village will go a long way to deter the villagers from migrating to the cities.

DHARMA SHAKTI SANGAM (30.12.10) : Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitaha

How the link Desh-Dharma-Sanskriti is vital for a balanced and prosperous development of the society will be the main focus of the day’s interaction. The focus on the “Eternal Truth” as the base of Dharma will inspire the congregation towards “right action” and also building of the spiritual power of the Nation. The Sanskriti makes the Dharma, the Dharma makes the Desh and vice-versa – this interdependence is very evident and essential for the Nation’s strong value system and spiritual strength.

SEVA SHAKTI SANGAM (31.12.10) : Sevahi Paramo Dharma

A congregation of service-oriented people and around 5000 seva organizations working towards improvement of environment, women, children, handicapped, education, agriculture and various other fields, will gather for the Seva Shakti Sangam. They will gain strength by sharing their experiences on a single platform and will also refocus on changes that are still required in the society. There will also be insightful discussions on how changes can be brought about by concerted effort and pooling-in of resources amongst the various organizations.

BHARAT KUMBHA (01.01.11) : Krinvanto Vishwamaryam

Apart from the participation of Indian delegates, non-resident Indians and people of Indian origin will also come in the program. The last day congregation will be the most significant day of the conclave where all important dignitaries and delegates will take pledge with a renewed enthusiasm to put in all their energies and resources to strengthen their villages, talukas, districts; to build national and universal strength on a positive line of thinking and keeping “Nation Building” as their overall focus. The vision is of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.

DAV School Safilguda adoptation of Banajipeta ZPHS High school in Warangal. First Visit is already over and today they have gone on second visit. This way every month last Saturday they would visit this village and the school.

DAV School visit to Banajipeta Village in Warangal District

After Meridian School it was DAV Safilguda School that visited Banagipeta village in Warangal
District on November 27, 2010. Starting at 7:00 am from Hyderabad, sixty students from class
VIII accompanied by six teachers had a drive to Banajipeta village never minding the muddy,
bumpy road. Banajipeta is around 75Km from Hyderabad.

Under the Varadhi Programme, DAV school has adopted Zilla Parishad High School - ZPHS
of Banajipeta. The warm reception by the ZPHS students’ spellbound DAV students to forget
the back pain caused by the bumpy-humpy roads. The rustic simplicity, warmth and ushering
welcome acted as pain reliever gels and made the students of DAV to mingle with ZPHS
students.

ZPHS students performed cultural programme by singing patriotic songs and dances and drum
beats. ZPHS students also surprised by rendering short speeches in English and Hindi with ease.
The students were taken around the village for conducting mini survey work related to village
occupation and livelihood. They also visited village deity Durga Temple and paid obeisance.
Visiting weavers and potters at work surprised the city students with amusement besides visiting
fertile paddy and cotton field.

After having sumptuous lunch together, students walked hand in hand with their counter parts
in exploring knowledge about village life. DAV students interacted with village people and lady
Sarpanch. Kind of unforgettable bonds build between these two schools students opened up to
share their individual experience.

Joy of Giving

DAV school gifted 100 pairs of essential garments to girls, library books, two sets of Carrom
Board, two sets of chess boards, and other stationary materials.

Departure to Hyderabad

A day visit came to an end with schools students, teachers and VMF volunteers sharing their
feelings. The emotional parting was touching and students could not stop the tears of joy with a
promise of re-visiting soon.

Maharshi Vidya Mandir Kondapur visit to Ravichedu Village in Mahaboobnagar District

After Meridian School and DAV Safilguda Schools, it was the turn of Maharshi Vidya Mandir Kondapur who visited Ravichedu village in Mahaboobnagar District on December 04, 2010. Starting at 7:00 am from Hyderabad, forty students from class VIII to IX accompanied by five teachers and Head Mistress Mrs Vasanthy Parasuraman had a joyful drive to Ravichedu village. From Kartal around 11km to the muddy, bumpy road leads to Ravichedu which is Banajipeta is around 55Km from Hyderabad.

Under the Varadhi Programme, Maharshi Vidya Mandir school has adopted Zilla Parishad High School -ZPHS of Ravichedu. The warm Hearty welcome reception by the ZPHS students’ enraptured Maharshi Vidya Mandir students to forget the two and half hour drive and back pain caused by the bumpy-humpy roads. The colourful kolatam and drum beats ushered warmth Pepe gels and made the students of Maharshi school students to mingle with ZPHS students.

Both school students together sang prayer, Mrs Vasanthy Prasuraman Head Mistress of Maharshi Vidya Mandir spoke kind words and highlighted importance of Education, schooling and being regular to school. She interacted with students, teachers and also distributed sweets to all the studuents.

Each student of Maharshi school was accompanied by three stduents from Ravichedu ZPHS.The students were taken around the village for mini exposure visit related to village occupation and livelihood.

It was great ZPHS students also surprised by rendering short speeches in Telugu with ease. Visiting weavers and potters at work surprised the city students with amusement besides visiting fertile paddy and cotton fields.

After having sumptuous lunch together, all assembled for cultural programme. Marashi school students Brahmanand and Alekya rendered melodius songs in Telugu and two other students shared their experience of visiting Ravichedu in Telugu. Even teachers from both the schools shared their feelings on this auspicious moment.The students were quite excided sighting rabbits, colourful birds and huge cranes (Many long flight birds visit Ravichedu every year during winter and return to back their countries in summer).

Kind of unforgettable bonds build between these two schools students opened up to share their individual experience.

The Maharshi Vidya Mandir school donated water drums, plates, mugs, jugs, school bags, writing pad, writing materials, 5 sets of Carrom Boards, foot balls, throw balls, tennicoit rings, skipping, and toys.

A day visit came to an end with schools students, teachers and VMF volunteers sharing their feelings. The emotional parting was quite touching. Students of Ravichedu schools lined up and formed chain to bid adieu.
